Sarah Ursula standing tall again (March 2010)

** For confidential reasons, we have used a fictitious name for this patient.

Sarah was spending her Christmas vacation last year in Dallas, Texas with her husband and their 6-month old baby. They were greeted by the coldest winter ever in Dallas. It snowed on Christmas Day and their car skidded and overturned on the highway. Everyone in the car was not hurt except Sarah. She immediately became paralyzed from the waist down. She sustained a spinal cord injury at L1 and had a fusion surgery. Hoping to stand and walk again, she came to our clinic on Feb 8, 2010 on a wheelchair and joined our “On My Feet” program – an integrated program of scalp acupuncture, body acupuncture, and physical therapy. With much patience and personalized care, our doctors helped ease her pain and discomfort, improved her body’s functional control, and strengthened her back and leg muscles. In less than two months, Sarah has progressed from minimal mobility to standing up and assisted walking.

Sarah requires daily treatment for the next few months so that she can regain full control of her body and mobility. As a young mom, she looks forward to taking care of her 8-month old baby again. However, her medical treatment and therapy expenses are taking a heavy toll on the family financials, and she is seeking financial help from the community to further her treatment.
