about us
founder
Dr. Ming Qing Zhu first garnered international attention when he used his technique to enable a hemiplegic stroke patient to stand during a demonstration at the inaugural meeting of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies in Beijing on Nov. 24, 1987.
Team
Based in San Jose, the current team is led by Ms. Moyee Siu, who co-founded the clinic with Dr. Zhu in 2000.
Moyee Siu
As Dr. Zhu’s most senior student, Ms. Siu worked alongside Dr. Zhu for nearly three decades and collaborated tirelessly with him to teach Zhu’s Scalp Acupuncture seminars around the world. While she is trained in treating a variety of ailments, Ms. Siu’s specialties are: Bell’s Palsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries and migraines.
Ms. Siu cites the teachings of Long Cenghua, the renown spine specialist, and Xuan Zheren, the soft tissue expert from China as strong influences in her overall diverse style of practice. With fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Ms. Siu was the only acupuncturist invited to speak at the 2009 Congress on Spinal Cord Medicine and Rehabilitation. She raises patients’ awareness of self-healing power and self-care by teaching them breathing, relaxation and physical exercises with her quiet and attentive manner.
Ms. Siu’s extensive career includes teaching secondary school in Hong Kong, working in the tech sector of Silicon Valley before studying Chinese medicine. She is nationally board certified and licensed by the State of California in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine with a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

DeAnna Madero
Greetings! DeAnna is the warm and enthusiastic voice who answers most of your calls to the clinic. As the office manager at ZSA, she keeps the flow of the clinic harmonious, bringing years of experience in administration and management from the tech sector. So why did DeAnna choose ZSA? Simple! I absolutely love it here! I am so proud and humbled to be a part of a team that is devoted to the holistic healing of its patients. I have personally seen many patients improve in their mobility and psychiatric symptoms.
I am also proud to say that this clinic has helped me in my personal life as well. With the advice, encouragement and expertise of the healthcare practitioners here, I have been able to meet my weight loss goal this year of losing 70 pounds! In fact, I have not seen a Western medicine doctor during my time here because whenever I feel ill, the doctors here take care of me with acupuncture and herbal medicine. When I am not in the clinic, I love to spend time with my family and volunteer at my daughter’s school. I will be the friendly face that you first see when you walk through the door to help you get started with your healing journey!
Richard Castillo
Richard hails from San Jose with a degree in Kinesiology from Sacramento State University. He joined the ZSA family in 2015 with his physical rehab background as well as amazing handyman skills, fixing anything that needs to be fixed in the clinic. Before his time at Sac State, Richard was a collegiate athlete where he developed his love for exercise. After a few major injuries which ended his career in sports, he shifted his passion to improving others’ well being.
Upon arriving ZSA , Richard did not have much exposure to acupuncture. Although Chinese medicine was foreign to him, as time went by while keeping an open mind, Richie became an acupuncture convert. Richard instills confidence in patients powered by his love of exercise, acupuncture and quarterbacking skills. He understands the importance of being a leader and making sure everyone receives the best care.
